The Department of Oral Biology is the only unified basic dentistry unit within the country.

The department began education and research in 1988 upon obtaining approval for establishment.

Anatomy, pharmacology, and biochemistry were added to the departments in 1993, but it has been operating as unified basic dentistry unit since 1996 when preventive dentistry decided to stand alone.
