The Yonsei University College of Dentistry (YUCD) is strongly committed to playing a leadership role in taking the 21st century dental science to the next level. One of our goals is to educate and develop highly qualified future dental professionals. To this end the YUCD has research committee that oversees five research centers and Center for Testing and Evaluating Dental Instruments. YUCD faculty members are vigorously pursuing cutting edge research projects in cell biology, oral cancer, dental materials, preventive dentistry, tooth regeneration and morphogenesis, oral microbiology, and neuroscience. As a result, since 2008, 123 research papers per year have been published in scholarly journals (SCIE), and research grants awarded to YUCD in 2008 was KRW 4,600,000,000 (approximately, US$ 4,600,000). Research grants awarded to our faculty members have steadily been increasing, up to KRW 7,400,000,000 (approx. US$ 7,400,000) per year in 2012.

YUCD is proud to have two top-notch research centers; Research Center for Orofacial Hard Tissue Regeneration established under Medical Research Center grant sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, and Oral Cancer Research Institute established under the research grant from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The research project on the “Recognition and regulation of micro-environment for the functional regeneration of periodontal tissue” has been supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). NRF also supports research projects on “the regulation of epithelial mesenchymal transition by SNAIL” and “intracellular calcium signal transduction mechanisms regulating physiological functions of craniofacial organ system.” The scope and depth of our faculty research interests continue to grow and expand.
